The New Roots Program focuses on “food-secure resettlement,” which comprises access to healthy foods and increased community integration. This is accomplished through nutrition, food security, gardening, enterprise, and production activities for refugees resettled in the US.

Researched SNAP application and recertification process; surveyed SNAP and nutrition needs in the community

Coordinated the summer Youth Food Justice program, which works with high school refugees to develop leadership, financial literacy, job readiness, and community engagement skills

Assisted outreach efforts for new program participants, contacting active clients, and working with local partners

New Roots Intern

Seattle/King County Clinic is a 4-day free clinic event at Seattle Center KeyArena. Providing over 4,000 patients with compassionate medical, dental, and vision care and access to resources.

- Developed culturally competency and LGBTQ+ care documents for our 4,000 volunteers to serve or 4,000 culturally and ethnically diverse patient population.
- Researched and developed  protocol for treating patients suspected to be victims of human trafficking. Also created informational sheets for providers and discreet ways of providing victims with resources.
- Updated the Washington Healthcare Access Alliance database of free and medicaid accepting clinics in Washington.
- Created email templates and media talking points for the communications team to use for outreach.
- Acted as point person for over a dozen organizations in the area with access to potential patient populations.
- Developed new outreach materials targeting housing-insecure populations, including business card sized fliers.
- Prepared materials for lead/director orientation and for the Clinic itself

- Traveled to Kigali, Rwanda to conduct qualitative interview with policy makers of Rwanda's highly successful family planning program. Collaborated with professors from Western Washington University, students from American universities, and Rwandan students from INES Ruhengeri University
- Family planning in Rwanda is not seen as population control, but rather as a way to empower the people": Examining Rwanda's Success in Family Planning from the Perspective of Public and Private Stakeholders" has been accepted for publication in Contraception and Reproductive Medicine.
- Presented paper at Population Association of America's 2018 conference.
- Paper accepted for presentation at the International Conference on Family Planning.
