Localizer. Co-lead Natural Language Generation project responsible for delivering timely data-driven content across the entire USA TODAY Network (250+ newsrooms) resulting in more than 200 projects published over the last 3 years; 54,000 articles, made up of more than 26 million words.

VR/AR storytelling. Managed award-winning team that developed and published dozens of specialized projects that transported readers into a rich native app experience bringing stories to life in conjunction with journalists from across the USA TODAY Network.

Innovation. Assembled and managed multiple innovation teams that developed tools and tactics to solve real-world problems for journalists and editors. Managed more than $1.2M in Google News Initiative funding awarded to support projects serving underrepresented audiences.

Led operations for centralized design group of 350 designers and managers, who designed more than 32,000 news pages per month for more than 160 daily newspapers nationwide.

Expanded the GateHouse Center for News Design’s capacity by adding more than 60 new titles to the content system in 6 months, adding efficiencies and savings while increasing quality.

Managed and renegotiated group-wide contracts with national syndicates and services.

Oversaw operational budget for the Center; managed consolidation of physical footprint from 30k sq ft to 10k sq ft site along with cultural fit and feel adjustments.

Project manager and strategist for assorted Cox Media-wide efforts including positioning and representing Statesman sale, and management of transition services after the sale; led and coordinated research and concept pitches for new evolution of Central Texas Hispanic news products; managed Austin360 entertainment app; co-managed RFP process to overhaul native news apps for all CMG newspapers.

Produced complete pilot episode of Austin360 Studio Sessions live local music video series in less than six week. The advertiser-sponsored show featured up-and-coming musicians touring through the Live Music Capital of the World in an intimate show with studio audience.

Connected Statesman and CMG with innovative companies and programs including: Spark Camp for newsroom leaders; SND Makes-Austin 3-day news products hackathon; community-wide Hispanic Marketing Symposium; Creative Mornings-Austin; hosted and programmed INMA Mobile Summit.

Served as elected officer for the international news design organization, leading the board of directors and coordinating daily and weekly with program directors internationally.

Led efforts at the Detroit Free Press and Detroit Media Partnership working with IDEO to train and instill design-thinking and human-centered design principles in the organization’s recent business and delivery model shift, to coordinate qualitative market research and lead a complete redesign of the Free Press. Later worked with a team of local, national and international partners on the development of an e-reader edition of the Free Press. Regularly served as night news editor, responsible for final decisions on front page and late newsroom operations.

Designed and implemented a complete redesign for 50-inch web conversion in June 2005; launched redesign in April 1999. Involved in development, editing and publication of numerous niche books and instant products. Responsible for overall appearance of paper and overall branding of the Free Press in all visual aspects. Integral in development and publication of 2003 “Portraits of War,” special illustration-based coverage of the Iraq war in-print and online, later republished as a picture book.

Served as deputy project director for configuration and installation of CCi BaseLine. Helped lead the core steering committee from Aug. 2004 to launch effort to revolutionize, redesign and rethink newsroom,
