Vernon Varner, MD, JD, is a highly experienced and well-educated professional in the field of psychiatry, with over three decades of experience. Dr. Varner has served as a general staff psychiatrist for the Palo Verde Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, and as the medical director of the Polk County Mental Health Center and Hickman Mental Health Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He has also worked as a staff psychiatrist at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, and Broadlawns Polk County Hospital.
Dr. Varner has extensive experience in forensic psychiatry, with expertise in medical and psychiatric forensics. Additionally, he is a lecturer at law at Drake University College of Law in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dr. Varner founded and served as CEO of The Neuropsychiatric Clinic, where he oversaw a team of multi-specialty professionals, specializing in adult inpatient and outpatient services for children through adults, with a clinic-wide age range. His clinic has extensive experience in psychiatry and medical forensics.
Dr. Varner earned his medical doctorate and doctorate of medicine from the College of Medicine at the University of Iowa, as well as a Juris Doctorate with honors from the College of Law at the University of Iowa. He also holds a B.S. in General Science from the University of Iowa.
