Australian marketing technology start-up Rokt sits at the intersection of digital marketing and commerce, working with the world’s biggest brands to get smarter in the e-commerce transaction.Rokt works with partners like eBay, Ticketmaster, Groupon and Fanatics to provide brands a referral platform where they can present relevant offers to consumers while customers are in a buying state of mind. The platform processes over 100 million transactions per month globally and is backed by over 200 employees.Founded in Sydney in 2012, Rokt currently operates in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Netherlands and Japan.

Software Engineer

- Owned the delivery of a Java API and Python CLI (used by our technical operations teams to manage customer clusters) by coordinating timelines, change management communication, quality checks, and the release workflow for a team of 5 engineers over a period of 7 months, while being an individual contributor as well* Investigated, designed, implemented, tested, and deployed features or bug fixes across back-end, front-end, business, and infrastructure areas (full-stack)* Worked with a team of 2 others to make improvements to internal tooling, auditing and monitoring using Java, Riemann (Clojure), Bash and Grafana* Participated in design reviews, code reviews, and test steps/release procedure reviews* Assisted team, especially new starters, with coming up-to-speed with processes, codebase, and technologies used* Kicked off company's first on-boarding program in the Development Team and was part of organising monthly Games Nights at work* Delivered on-boarding talks for new starters or old hands who need a refresher* Part of weekend on-call roster providing support and basic technical operations for customers a few days a month* Built great working relationships with employees in different functional teams in the company (ie. Marketing, Technical Support/Operations) and served as an informal sounding board for suggested approaches and feasibility of cross-team ideas---Instaclustr provides 24/7 ongoing support for open source big data technologies (Apache Cassandra, Apache Spark, ElasticSearch), with automation and monitoring at the core of our managed service to ensure our customers can fully focus on building the applications they care most about.

- Project lead for a team of three (including a senior engineer) doing testing and bug-fixing for a large feature after taking over the project halfway - focused on Java coding, documentation, providing guidance, and team/project management* Developed internal security and access systems in a team of 3 using Bash, SSH and Certificate Authority (CA), following a model previously published by Facebook* Various front-end improvements with AngularJS and NVD3 (graphing library)* Worked in a team of 3-8 people to modify core functionality of the Instaclustr managed service platform to support and release a new product (Apache Kafka) across several smaller releases in the span of 6 months, with a strong focus on Java, Kafka, and Riemann (Clojure) to update our monitoring and alerting services* Served as an Instaclustr Admin for over a year, taking care of provisioning accounts, modifying user permissions, performing releases in high-security environments, and handling other security controls/requests as needed under the direction of the VP of Security

Started out doing Front-End Development for Instaclustr while in university in both their Marketing & Development teams, and continued on as a full-time Graduate Software Engineer after finishing my degree.Primarily worked with WordPress, Zendesk and AngularJS.

Frontend Developer

Short 3-week internship with a start-up producing software for the medical industry. Learned and worked with AngularJS on the front-end. Practiced the Agile methodology, going through testing and review processes for code changes I made. Also got a chance to be involved in some UX Testing.Though quite overwhelming due to its short duration and steep learning curve for me at the time, what I remember most about this internship was the great mentor I had, who was encouraging and patient with me the whole way; and also the touching story behind the founder's motivation for starting SmartWard - both things that have left a lasting impression on me.

Started out working remotely as a Virtual Assistant with Forensic Healing through the Upwork freelance platform. Started out as a Virtual Assistant to the founder, working remotely and across timezones, but quickly became an integral part of this startup, wearing many hats along the way, including Editor-in-Chief of this tech-focused digital youth magazine.Even when I started, we already had good relations with the Middle Eastern PR firms representing Samsung, PlayStation, Razer, BlackBerry and the like, as well as various film distributors and event organisers in the region.During the course of my time with Youth Arabia, we formed new relationships with more product vendors we were interested in reviewing/marketing, and strengthened existing relationships, formalising partner agreements where services and products were to be provided in exchange for media coverage on our website or social media platforms, usually in the form of blogs, advertisements, videos, or some very creative marketing campaigns by our amazing group of student graphic designers (the youngest, who was 14 at the time and talented beyond his age, came up with the entire branding for our startup, from logo to letterheads!).I was working closely with one of the founders on a daily basis and soon became a valuable business consultant, as well as a close confidante, to both the founders through the ups and the downs of managing this startup through its defining period.Though Youth Arabia was dominating its niche market at its peak in 2012, it didn't make it past 2013 due to unexpected events and factors mostly beyond the team's control.
