Barry Steyn
Barry Steyn is a highly skilled and experienced software engineer, entrepreneur, and cryptography enthusiast with a passion for building things that will be used by millions of people. With a background in Computer Science and Mathematics, he holds a Masters, Honours and Bachelor of Science degree from University of Cape Town. With his love for writing, Barry maintains a blog where he shares his ideas and has also given lectures.
Starting out as a software developer at Allan Gray, he went on to work at various companies such as RedButton Wi-Fi, Microsoft, HootSuite and Move Inc. where he served different roles as a Senior Software Lead/Architect, Software Engineer Lead and most recently as a Senior Software Engineer at LinkedIn.
During his time as a co-founder at RedButton Wi-Fi, he was involved in all aspects of the business at the start, from management and development to installation of product, sales and eventually became the CTO. He also gained experience in all forms of business management, making him a well-rounded professional.
Barry is specialized in software development with a keen interest in cryptography. He created a NodeJS module on GitHub that allows secure password storage. He has also taught students as a TA for Coursera Cryptography Course. His expertise and skills make him a valuable addition to any organization.
