As part of a structured work experience placement, I was introduced to the workings of an international commercial bank across its entire value chain. This included spending time in the front office with both the equity capital markets and equity sales and research teams, as well as a number of  support functions, extending to risk management, compliance, technology, operations and finance. This provided me with an invaluable insight into how a bank works with a good understanding of the purpose of each business function as well as how they inter-operate. It also allowed me to experience first hand the working culture of a commercial bank, which suited me having both value creation and a strong work ethic at its core.
