Bruce Caron is a researcher, writer, and former executive director with experience in various fields, including education, gaming, and open science. With undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Washington and the University of California, Berkeley, respectively, and a PhD from UC Santa Barbara, Caron has been involved with several organizations in different capacities. He has served as the research director and executive manager at the New Media Studio, community architect at Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP), and president at The Federation of Earth Science Information Partners. Additionally, he has been a lecturer in anthropology at UC Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara City College, a cultural advisor at the Ministry of Culture in the Republic of Korea, and a director of development at the College of Engineering at UC Santa Barbara.

Caron's research interests include commons theory, post-capitalism, science collectives, and the cultural work of open science. He has also worked on several projects related to digital collaboration and information management, such as the NASA Science on Drupal Central Project and the DigitalOcean project at UCSB. Along with his academic pursuits, he is also committed to writing fiction regularly.
