Under his leadership, Cerion Nanomaterials has seen incredible business growth that has made advanced expertise in custom nanomaterial design, scale-up, and manufacturing accessible and cost-effective for use by the industry.

Mertz is a passionate champion of advancing the growth and maturity of the nanomaterials industry. He is the Chairman and former member of the Board of Directors of the Nanomaterial Industries Association (NIA), the leading trade association representing users and makers of nanomaterials. In addition, he is a frequent keynote speaker, moderator, and panelist at industry conferences and contributor to organizations such as the National Nanotechnology Initiative, Nanotechnologies Industry Association, Advanced Material Show, and Ceramics Expo. He is also regularly featured in industry publications, including Wired, R&D Magazine, Specialty Chemicals Magazine, and others.

Before joining Cerion Nanomaterials, Mertz was Chief Financial Officer and Partner at Intermedia, an experiential marketing firm that organizes events, meetings, and product launches on behalf of Fortune 500 and 1000 companies. He also served as the Chief Operating Officer of The Festival Network, LLC, which acquires and develops large-scale, multi-day music festivals in unique geographical locations worldwide.
