Yen Pai is a seasoned engineering leader with over 18 years of experience in building and guiding teams to success through high growth and system/business complexity. After studying at the University of California, Berkeley, Pai kickstarted his career as a Senior Software Engineer at Sony Music - Digital Platform Group. Since then, he has worked with various organizations in different capacities, including Technical Consultant at The Clorox Company, Technical Consultant at PIX System, Director of Engineering, Platform Architecture at TubeMogul, Inc., and Senior Engineering Manager at DoorDash. He has also been in the trenches through multiple start-ups and exits and understands the organizational pressures of hyper-growth and maintaining velocity while controlling entropy.

Pai has led teams of up to 80+ with direct technical and managerial reports, supported complex systems, and has extensive start-up experience. He is highly technical, an excellent communicator, and concurrently forward-thinking and results-focused. Pai is currently the Director Of Engineering, Data Platform (hiring!) at Discord, where he is responsible for leading the development of Discord's data platform architecture. Pai enjoys growing people, building teams, and having fun with constraints, technical or otherwise.
