Andrew Byrd

Andrew Byrd is the Principal at Conveyal, where he creates innovative public transportation planning and management tools. His work advances the practice of transportation planning, making it possible to rapidly and conveniently perform analyses previously confined to academic research. Andrew has extensive experience in software architecture and implementation, particularly with scalable, resilient cloud-based distributed systems, combinatorial optimization algorithms for scheduled transportation, and geospatial analysis.

Andrew earned a Master's degree in Urban Planning with a Mobility and Transport specialization at École des Ponts ParisTech. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Arts in French Language and Literature from Portland State University. Prior to joining Conveyal, he worked as a Senior Developer at OpenPlans, a Research Fellow at the French Institute of Science and Technology for Transport, Development and Networks (IFSTTAR), a Development Engineer at École des Ponts ParisTech, and a Research Assistant at Portland State University's Intelligent Transportation Systems and High Performance Computing Labs.
