Jacy Ippolito is a highly respected and accomplished professor at Salem State University. With a passion for English, psychology, and education, Ippolito has an impressive educational background, which includes a B.A. in English and Psychology from the University of Delaware, an Ed.M. in Language and Literacy, Reading Specialist Certification Program, and a Ed.D. in Language and Literacy, Human Development and Education from Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
Before his time at Salem State, Ippolito gained invaluable experience by working as a middle school reading specialist, drama teacher, and literacy coach in the Cambridge Public Schools. His expertise in literacy has led him to write books and articles on the roles of teachers, principals, and literacy coaches in helping to institute and maintain instructional change in middle and high schools. He is also a former member of the School Reform Initiative, co-chair of the Harvard Educational Review Editorial Board, and a committee member of the International Literacy Association Standards Writer.
In addition to his extensive experience in education, Ippolito has a variety of interests outside of the classroom. His research interests include the impact of race, language, and culture on urban education, as well as the influence of teacher leadership on school reform. He also enjoys traveling and has visited countries such as Australia, India, and Cuba.
