Rashad Abbasov is a Circular Economy entrepreneur with a background in environmental leadership, sustainable materials recovery, and plastic waste reduction. He is the founder and CEO of Scrapo, the world's largest plastic recycling marketplace, connecting over 50,000 recycling businesses in 150 countries.
Abbasov's accomplishments include winning the 2020 Texas Environmental Leadership Award for Superior Materials Recovery and being a finalist of the End Plastic Waste Innovation Platform by the Plug & Play Tech Center and the Alliance to End Plastic Waste. He is also the founder of the Plastic Diversion Initiative, a non-profit organization aiming to divert plastic from landfills and natural environments while creating new job opportunities in communities across America.
Abbasov's educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) from the University of Cambridge and a Master of Science (MSc) from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He has held positions as a senior advisor at Quantum International, president at Zupamart, and deputy chairman of the board at AXA MBASK OJSC. Abbasov has also worked as a research fellow at CEPS (Centre for European Policy Studies) and a senior project manager at Azpetrol International Holdings B.V.
