Esther Yang is a highly experienced derivatives trader with eighteen years of capital market and risk management experience. She has held key positions in large insurance and investment firms where she has established a track record of delivering strong company growth and profitability by developing investment and hedging strategies. Throughout her career, Esther has demonstrated a keen ability to mentor and empower employees, forging relationships with key stakeholders and brokers to meet her client’s financial needs.
Esther is an expert in designing and implementing hedging and yield-enhancement strategies using a wide range of derivatives and liquid cash instruments, including US treasuries, reverse repo, sovereign debts, futures, FVA, interest rate swaps, swaptions, caps and floors, equity index options, total return swaps, variance swaps, FX forwards, and G10 FX options. She is especially knowledgeable about the cross-asset volatility market and advises clients on the methods and timing of entry/exit hedges based on market intelligence, particularly during market turbulence.
Esther has a strong foundation in actuarial science and financial mathematics, having earned a master's degree from the University of Waterloo. She has also studied biology and cellular and molecular biology at Peking University.
Esther is a co-founder of Risk Lighthouse, which advises on risk management and regulatory compliance, and has previously held positions as the SVP, Senior Derivatives Trader at Voya Investment Management, Manager at Ernst & Young's insurance consulting practice, and Portfolio Manager at Allstate Investment Management.
