I have the privilege of sharing the floor with Alan Quarry to help bridge the digital marketing knowledge gap in 4th year marketing at Laurier. Alan and I are responsible for helping the students of BU459 navigate the new digital landscape with both a tactical and highly strategic lens. In this role, I am truly getting the chance to fulfill one of my career dreams: make a small dent in marketing education, at a school that I am a proud alumnus of.

I am a volunteer Coach for the ATOM Division (Grades 5 & 6) Boys Basketball team named after the "Wake Forest Demon Deacons." My primary responsibilities include: 1. Managing the team roster to ensure that all players get equal amounts of court time. 2. Planning drills/training sessions to help the team develop fundamental basketball skills.3. Help the players gain an understanding of the rules of basketball through gameplay situations. 4. Coordinate efforts with other coaches to ensure the overall well being and enjoyment for the players in the ATOM division. My time as a volunteer coach is helping me to develop my leadership skills and giving me a greater understanding of what it takes to manage and develop a team.

I am currently part of the Digital Marketing team and my primary responsibilities include: 1. Managing all content on the Christie Digital corporate website, with a focus on making the content optimized for search engines so as to increase conversions. 2. Managing and implementing a Digital Asset Management system throughout the marketing department of the Christie Canada and all Global Christie locations. 3. Creating and managing the content for the Christie Marketing Intranet. 4. Developing and executing social media and web strategies for new product launches and major company announcements. 5. During my time at Healy Consultants, I was exposed to the world of Search Engine Marketing. My primarily responsibilities included: 1. Developing Search Engine Optimization reports showing a week-by-week analysis of the Company's Internet Search Engine Rankings (on Google). 2. Developing a weekly Google Analytics document to track specific metrics such as unique visits and global location of visitors. 3. Creating and managing social media marketing strategies for the Company through websites such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Throughout my experience at Healy Consultants, I was able to learn how to deal with specific deadlines; thus, helping to improve my time management skills. Furthermore, I was able to function well in a small-sized Company and was very comfortable in a culturally-diverse working environment,

(Singapore) Marketing Intern

During my two month Internship experience with HSBC, I was able to gain a significant understanding of the inner workings of a large Multi-National Company. My primary responsibilities during this time included: 1. Developing and maintaining a Website on the Company's Intranet, for the Human Resources Service Center. For the development of this site I used a simple web-based software that was standard to the Company's Intranet. I also developed an interactive Powerpoint tutorial on how to create a Website on the Company's Intranet for any future Intern's use. 2. Working with a team of two other employees to carry out the execution of a new Company-wide employee rewards program. This involved coordinating the efforts of different departments (such as IT and Marketing), developing a web page as well as an Intranet launch campaign for the program. My experience at HSBC thought me how to value and cater to the internal customer as well as how to coordinate efforts in a very large functional organization. I was briefly exposed to the workings of the Marketing department during my Internship as well.

My experience at Leo Burnett was my first exposure to a real-time marketing environment. I was able to gain a significant understanding of how a full-service Ad Agency works and I spent the majority of my time with the Brands department. My responsibilities included:1. Performing research on various Television, Print and Radio spots for different industries. The purpose of this research was to help my Brand Manager better understand the different kinds of ads used in industries that were relevant to certain clients. 2. Developing Powerpoint presentations for certain client briefs across a variety of industries. Here I was responsible for analyzing various market research data and compiling it into something valuable to present to certain clients. 3. Assisting with various projects in the Brands department. Here I was responsible for helping Account Coordinators develop creative briefs and communicating those briefs to members of the Creative department. I was also involved in many brainstorming sessions for various projects and on two occasions I was directly involved with the production of a television and print commercial. During my time at Leo Burnett, I was able to improve my teamwork and inter-organizational communication skills by working on a variety of large projects. Furthermore, I was exposed to the various parts of the communications mix that are used in the Sri Lankan marketplace.
