Johnson Akinleye

Dr. Johnson O. Akinleye, the 12th Chancellor of North Carolina Central University (NCCU), assumed office on June 26, 2017, and has introduced 'The Eagle Promise' platform to advance the institution's legacy of Truth and Service.

His strategic priorities include enhancing student success, broadening academic offerings, forging partnerships across various educational sectors and industries, fostering community development, enhancing campus security, and expanding infrastructure at NCCU.

Dr. Akinleye holds a Ph.D. in Human Communication Studies from Howard University, complemented by a B.A. and M.S. in Communications from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University.

With a rich academic background and a strong administrative history, he has served in various leadership roles such as Interim Chancellor, Provost, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Associate Vice Chancellor in esteemed institutions like NCCU, UNC Wilmington, Edward Waters College, and Bethune-Cookman University.
