Ted Mitchell is a highly accomplished educator and leader who has held various positions of great responsibility throughout his career in academia and education policy. He currently serves as the President of the American Council on Education, a prominent membership organization that represents over 1,700 colleges and universities across America and abroad. With a PhD in History from Stanford University, Mr. Mitchell has extensive experience in higher education leadership, having served as President of both Occidental College and the California Board of Education. Additionally, he served as Under Secretary at the U.S. Department of Education and led the NewSchools Venture Fund as CEO. Throughout his career, Mr. Mitchell has demonstrated a commitment to expanding access to quality postsecondary education, promoting innovation in education, and advocating for policies that advance equity and social progress.
