Tarek R. Besold

Tarek R. Besold is a highly experienced and accomplished expert at the intersection of artificial intelligence, cognitive systems, and cognitive science. He holds a PhD in Cognitive Science from Universität Osnabrück, where he also studied artificial intelligence. In addition, he has a Diplom in Mathematics and Computer Science from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and studied Logic at Universiteit van Amsterdam. Besold has served as the Chief Science Officer at Alpha Health, the health tech Moonshot of Telefónica Innovación Alpha. He is currently the CTO and Acting Managing Partner for Tech/R&D, Standardisation/Certification, and Operations at Neurocat GmbH.

Besold has in-depth knowledge and strong analytical skills in the areas of artificial intelligence and cognitive systems, as well as at the intersection of computer science, cognition, logic, philosophy, and mathematics. He has experience building multidisciplinary teams and developing individual staff profiles in an R&D and innovation context. Besold is the Chairman of the German National Standards Working Group on AI and has served as the Editor in Chief of Elsevier's Cognitive Systems Research. He is an ACM Distinguished Speaker, advising Dalang Technologies and has worked with The AI Initiative @ The Future Society.

Besold is passionate about advancing the field of AI and cognitive science through interdisciplinary collaboration, strategic leadership, and developing theoretical insights into real-world applications. He is also a science communicator, event manager, and consultant, advising on AI, computational creativity, cognitive science, or the interplay between science and society.
