Steven Adler is an accomplished CEO, data strategist, inventor, and marine science researcher with a passion for addressing ocean sustainability issues through innovative and practical solutions. He is the founder of the Ocean Data Alliance, which launched at the United Nations and focuses on developing business approaches to solve critical ocean challenges.
Adler was previously IBM's Chief Data Strategist and helped create the internet insurance and data governance industries. He holds four patents and has contributed to whitepapers on smart cities. Additionally, he served on the US Commerce Department Data Advisory Council, on the NY Civil Liberties Board of Directors, and held co-chair positions on industry standard committees at W3C and OASIS.
Adler's interest in data and technology has led him to work with various organizations, including the EU Mission Atlantic, DockTech, and the National Academy of Medicine. He has also judged data innovation challenges for the World Bank, USAID Colombia, and the Danish Business Authority. He is a contributing author for the Aspen Institute Business & Society Program and a former advisor to the Peruvian Cabinet Ministry.
Adler's educational background includes a BA in History and Economics from The George Washington University, and guest lecturer positions at Københavns Universitet and Bucerius Law School, where he served as an advisory board member for their Master's in Business and Law program.
