Daniel Blackman has devoted his career to leveling the playing field for marginalized communities by creating economic opportunities, advocating for equitable education, and striving for a healthy environment accessible to all. He is a former Democratic nominee for the Georgia Public Service Commission who garnered over 2.2 million votes. With more than a decade of work advising policymakers, Blackman has successfully advocated for Georgia's ratepayers and small businesses regarding energy-related matters before the Georgia Public Service Commission. Additionally, he served as a chairman of the Georgia Chapter of the Sierra Club, a board member of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and chair of Georgia's 7th Congressional District.
Blackman played a fundamental role in implementing water infrastructure, clean air, and emergency management policies in the southeast during the Obama Administration. Due to his civil rights background, he was tasked with amplifying the Region's Environmental Justice (EJ) Policy and bringing together stakeholders and federal agencies to address numerous community concerns strategically and comprehensively.
He has testified before the Nuclear Regulatory Commission regarding the groundwater contamination at nuclear plants and its adverse effects on public health and safety. Blackman has also been a critical player in pushing for legislation in the Southeastern United States that addresses toxic ash from burning coal and shifting toward clean energy practices.
Clark Atlanta University alumnus, Blackman, is a first-generation American born to immigrants from Barbados. He and his wife, Jeanelle, have four children, and they currently reside in Forsyth County, Georgia.
