Monique Verdin
Monique Verdin is a citizen of the Houma Nation and an interdisciplinary storyteller who has dedicated her career to documenting the intricate relationship between environment, culture, and climate in southeast Louisiana. She holds a degree in Mass Communication from Loyola University New Orleans and has been involved in various environmentally inspired projects like the multiplatform performance Cry You One, Unfathomable City: A New Orleans Atlas, and the collaborative book Return to Yakni Chitto: Houma Migrations. Monique is also the director of the Land Memory Bank & Seed Exchange and a collaborative member of Another Gulf Is Possible, where she works towards envisioning just economies, vibrant communities, and sustainable ecologies for her people.
Her passion for environmental activism has led her to work as a DeepWater Horizon Social Impacts Study Community Partner at The University of Arizona and as an Advisory Board Member at The Hive Fund for Climate & Gender Justice. Monique has also served as a Board Member at ARTSPOT PRODUCTIONS, INC. and School House 4 ReImagining Education. She has a keen interest in education, having previously served as a School Board Member at New Harmony High School and as a Youth Assistant at United Houma Nation.
Monique's expertise in storytelling, environmental activism, and community projects has earned her recognition and respect as a director, writer, graphic designer, photographer, and performer. As a proud member of the Houma Nation, she brings an important perspective and voice to conversations about environmental justice and intersectionality.
