I have had toad-pro 6 months to use for my 08 honda crv. It had an engine light back a few months and usually go to the AutoZone to check. I fixed the last time engine had the code and finally came on again, and this is the first time I used it at 7 am. Plugged it in, paired to Win (code is 1234), then launched toad-scan software on Win 10, and immediately connected.In short, I cleared the code, so now, my daughter driving it will not freak out about the engine light. Took less than 10mins. I started to add gauges, and it seems to read a lot of info. I will play with it some more and look at youtube. I kepted it plugged in so when I get home from work, i will check it again. This saved me a lot of time and mony I assume.

Right place for review? TOAD cleared engine light early in the morning

I have read a lot of the reviews, amazon feedbacks, scams and ripoffs online about car scan tools before I decided to get involved with Total Car Diagnostics; being suspicious of them also initially due to some mixed experiences. Afterall I do have the need for it, since the MIL (check engine light), has been coming on in my car lately, and going to Autozone twice with no code error, is quite frustrating. So I end up buying a new gas cap just to slowly troubleshoot/cross eliminate possible issues. The new gas cap was worth it, whether the MIL light is about it or not. But since I bought the gas cap and this gadget at the same time, I was able to plug this one in (thanks for all the reviews, I was able to get pass the link error issue, my car's engine has to be turned on to scan properly, or else, it will keep showing link error). And VOILA! I got a DTC error right away. WOW! What else can I say??? Now at least, I have a better clue how to fix/find the possible solutions to it. And erasing the code is super easy! For this price, you can't go wrong! I'd recommend this to all my friends/families in a heartbeat.I was also able to scan without starting the car. Just turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and it works like a charm. I must be doing it hastily the first time that I was getting link error, and decided to just start the car and it worked both ways. But it's best not to start the car, IMO.

TOAD PRO has worked well when the check engine light comes on. I had a problem with my coolant thermostat and was able to diagnose it before visiting the mechanic through the web with the code I got and the symptoms I had. I wanted to see if the new mechanic place was going to be honest (I just moved to a new state), so I didn't say anything about it except the check engine light went on. The mechanic told me that was the issue and nothing else, I knew I found a good mechanic.

TOAD Pro good as mechanic.

I used toad-pro windows software to diagnose the problems on my daughters Nissan Maxima. It showed 3 codes. One for a bad camshaft position sensor and one for a misfire on cylinder 3. I replaced the sensor and the #3 cylinder coil pack. Car runs great now. It's very simple to operate. This obd software is worth every dollar. I also bought the five foot extension cable for it. I can stand up outside of the car and run scans.

TOAD car software found 3 errors on daughters car.

Simple TOAD review- having these codes can save you a lot of grief and money and it is not costly and it is easy to use. The code I needed was on TotalCarDiagnostics website, but there are tons of places on the WEB to look the codes up, even for your car model, and get all sorts of practical advice. Also, you can find where to hook it up on you car on the web. Do this first, as if you do not know where to find it on your car exactly you can waste time and contortions. I found out my code was really minor, and it is a big relief knowing I do not have to rush the car in for a repair. Also, if you find it is major, you know you need to get your car in fast. Plus, it will arm you with knowledge and help you not get ripped off! I have a good honest mechanic now, but when I was younger I did not and this could have saved me a lot of time and money! Directions on install are also easy to follow. Generally TOAD (Total OBD & ECU Auto Diagnostics) by TotalCarDiagnostics is a well designed OBD2 diagnostic kit and after buying it, you do not have to waste money on the more expensive ones around.....

Love Total Car Diagnostics! Wife and I sent away for the TOAD® CAN OBD II OBD2 Scanner Tool by Total Car Diagnostics and have already used it a couple of times! We recently bought a car for our son that not long after purchase had problems! Shortly after purchasing this used car, my son decides to test out the turbo feature in the car and since then has stopped working. My husband suggested we purchase the Total OBD & ECU Auto Diagnostics Scanner Tool. While I was completely skeptical because who buys a scanner that will actually work and give a non-mechanic or untrained professional code detecting problems in a car, right? This one actually worked I'm elated to say! My son recently purchased the part that is supposed to fix the problem and while now that is fixed, the Total OBD & ECU Auto Diagnostics scanner tool detected that there now is an electrical short in the transmission! While I doesn't help us fix the problem, this is certainly a great tool to have because it helps you make basic decisions as to whether or not the car needs a professional mechanic or shop to fix it! We would highly recommend the tool for anyone who is not only handy enough to fix basic car problems but who doesn't mind having a little knowledge in their arsenal.

Customer feedback submitted 1 March 2018:It's clear they've been perfecting the toad OBD2 software for years and continue today since 2011. Can tell because I'm a 21 year professional mechanic and been relying on totalcardiagnostics products since then. For eg, used every tuner under the sun for cars/trucks/bikes, from America, Asia, Europe. Toad reader & tuner is by far in the top 3-4. We're using it as our default obd2 tool in our service center for generic engine problems, along side Autel products for OEM manufacturer faults. Caution though - if intending to use it for ECU programming, you should first possess experience with tuning car maps before using the included chiptuning software. They give plenty of online resources that could help you for free. But it'll still take  dozens of hours to understand.Downside: There is no "all in one best". Toad, like many others, has downsides. EG: Hptuners trumps it with speed of live data graphing. This won't bother 90% of useres, but rest of us using it to keep client safe on the road, one half second of missed data (in Toad's case) could mean missing the critical info needed for appropriate repair.Finally, it's refreshing the obd-ii software is Touch friendly. So you can use it on 2-in-1 hybrid's or Surface pro, without a keyboard. Probably the only modern touch-friendly obd2 software on Windows.

I saved a lot of money when I was able to clear my Merc MIL check engine light using this tool. I purchased this OBD package because I suspected the check engine light came on due to not tightened gas cap sufficiently after filling the car with petrol. The MIL light continued, however, and I was told that it would cost me $300 just to check to see whether there was a vapor leak somewhere. I was also staring at the cost of repair if there was indeed the issue. In an earlier experience with a similar situation the dealer replaced the check engine light itself for a cool $490. Total OBD & ECU Audo Diagnostics scantool reset the check engine light, which enabled me to determine whether my original hunch was correct or if something else was the matter with the car, in which case the check engine light would return.Everything was fine (and has been for many months). I saved myself at least $400, perhaps more, and I now have the peace of mind of being able to use this tool to diagnose whatever other problem might be taking place with the car via vehicles OBD2 port and TOAD OBD2 software and included OBD-II hardware. I am not a mechanic but if a problem ever takes place again I can go to the mechanic with basic knowledge about the problem, and I can reset false negatives with this tool.

Review from experience using TOAD OBD software

I got the OBD 2 Windows software called TOAD, to avoid paying $190 to my mechanic to do the same thing every time the "check engine" light comes up on my cars (2005 Nissan Altima S / 2011 Ford Fusion SEL). It is very easy to use: just plug it in; up pops whatever code is being generated; and then google the code to see what it is (they're all out there, you just have to find them). It will also clear the code and so eliminate the warning light on the dash. I've avoided several non-essential trips to the mechanic with this device (and found one that *was* essential, so I took my car in immediately without clearing the code).

My experience of using OBD 2 software by Total Car Diagnostics (TOAD-OBD Review)

Worked at Total Car Diagnostics for 1 year as support agent. What goes on inside is something customer never sees. Basically attitude is like this: Priority is that customer purchased a OBD scantool which actually helps them in real life and will be useful in future. Total Car Diagnostics is completely uninterested in customers who buy TOAD or any other OBD2 scanner as a pure novelty item. Thus Total Car Diagnostics constantly rejects many orders by looking at tone of customer during first contact. Yes, they're really serious about only accepting serious customers.

Yes TOAD-Pro software worked for what I purchased it for, but it does not permanently clear the codes. My check enging light was coming on as the car is due for a service. I purchased this tool to get rid of it, but instantly the light reappeared. Seems like a waste of money! However it's my ignorance. You still need to physically fix the problem, else sensor picks up the fault MIL again.

I have Toyota Corolla which is old and it gave me code and this, both obd2 software and included ELM327 obd scanner (bluetooth) was very easy to connect and read the code. We use variety of bi-directional OBD scanners/readers in our shop for troubleshooting. However where Total OBD & ECU Auto Diagnostics scanner package stands out is level of analytical depth it's capable of extracting from vehicles ECU. Specifically it's advantage is it's laptop based, hence you have a large screen display when test driving... and can show/record live data of multiple values. You can customize what you wish graphed. This alone was worth the money as no handheld scanner even comes close to this.Also the the auto repair info and advice that Total Car Diagnostics provides at their support center is OUTSTANDING. It's outlined in step by step, extensive detail. So it's clear their staff go through great lengths for QUALITY vs QUANTITY.I certainly anticipate purchasing more of products from <a href="http://TotalCarDiagnostics.com">TotalCarDiagnostics.com</a>, specifically their remapping, tuning, flashing and reprogramming ECU chip tuners.Also in our second shop (other side of town), we work on a vast amount of light duty diesel engines, Ford (Power Strokes), GM (Duramax) and Dodge (Cummings). Our professional opinion of the OBD2 Industry and Dealings with Total Car Diagnostics company: Our downside was Total Car Diagnostics isn't 100% clear what car models are supported. This ends up creating unnecessary conflict. We notified them as seems they've updated their page, showing certain models (Dodge, Chevy, GMC, etc) are not supported.Using it's OBD2 scanner (we opted for Bluetooth ELM327 ver) and it's included OBD software you will start to understand your vehicle(s) much better and will become an "expert" in reporting what is normal and what is abnormal within it's usage patterns.But to give some suggestions, I would say start observing some very basic and important parameters such as engine coolant temperature, battery voltage, and turbo boost (for your diesel cars) etc. These are direct measurements, and hence accurate as well as easy to read. For example: For most petrol cars, the coolant temperature range is typically between 90C (normal operating temperature) to 108C (indicating highly heated engine, happens when you climb steep ghats etc. The radiator fan will be running at max speed. The cooling system would be on full load. This is on the border of engine overheating, but still just inside the border). Anything above 108C (229 F) would immediately indicate engine overheating and some problem in the cooling system. So I have set an alarm for 108C for my coolant temperature. Battery voltage below 12V would indicate battery issues. I have set an alarm for battery voltage dropping below 12V. In fact, as it happened, this alarm went off a few times in last two nights when I was driving in the night in heavy rain. In short, I learned a lot about battery voltage levels, alternator charging voltages levels, normal and abnormal battery outputs etc. in last week, all thanks to Toad software and included OBDII reader adapter.

I am a pro car technician. In my experience SnapOn in combo with Total Car Diagnostic's TOAD-Scan, may be one of the best combo OBD2 scanners for serious mechanics. TOAD generic OBD2 supports vehicles that many generic scanners do not such as Volvo. It doesn't supports a wide range of modules, like SnapOn, that can be scanned for codes as well as the ability to display values and sensor data for the specific module scanned. Toad's strength is clearly in Engine only.It's certainly fastest to scan and connect then SnapOn/Autel range. If your looking for a true bidirectional scanner, TOAD is *not* the choice. For that, you need higher range like SnapOn/Launch/Autel. The coding needs massive Hex editing experience and totally useless for common DIY car owner. Too hard.VIN recognition on TOAD OBD2 SOFTWARE isn't 100% on this so you may be entering in vehicle information on random vehicles.So my conclusion: TOAD by itself is a insufficient for pro mechanic. You need to back it up with proper manufacture supporting PID tool.

We used this software scanner on a 2011 Honda Accord EX because the check engine light was on and we were needing the car to pass emissions in July. My husband wanted to trouble shoot it as much as he could on his own before taking it to a mechanic so we could save money on repair costs. Thanks to this scanner my husband was able to clear the check engine light and, including the scanner, we only spent about $250 total. In our case, this tool seriously saved us cash because without it we would have had to just take it to a repair technician.
