I decided to expand the TEDxUStreet brand because I recognized that I was missing a critical market audience – men. The TEDxUStreetWomen conference is considered to be the signature event of the TEDxUStreet brand. TedxUStreetSalon events provide additional value to the brand by having several smaller event before and after the TEDxUStreetWomen conference. These events do not replace each other, but complement each other. TEDxSalons are designed to be small but impactful. A critical element of salon is lively discussions, allowing attendees to actively participate in the event. With much smaller audiences, salons bring attendees together in more intimate spaces, and with more chances to get know and exchange ideas as with each other. Our first salon event theme is “The Future of Men of Color” where the speakers will discuss their ideas around the changing landscape of the world and how it impacts men of color. With the emergence of the pandemic and the current civic unrest, one can not image the effects it will have on our youth and men of color. What will the job landscape look like? Will men of color have the same level of access to wealth? What about our youth? Will they have the support they need to handle their unique challenges? Are men prepared to thrive in this new normal? These are just some questions that need innovative ideas (recommendation) that will be shared with individuals all over the world. Now is the time to show the world how you see The Future of Men of Color. The TEDxUStreetSalon team is very excited about our inaugural Salon event scheduled for December 7, 2020. The next event is scheduled for April 2021 & July 2021.  As with our TEDxUStreetWomen conference, we expect that our newest brand will maintain our standards of quality and success. As a TEDxUStreetSalon speaker, you will have the support from the TEDxUStreetWomen team & followers as well as the support of other individuals who share in the vision of spreading ideas worth sharing.

Perhaps not coincidentally, it’s also the birthplace of celebrated DC hero, jazz musician Duke Ellington. Today, this section of the city is as vibrant as ever, anchored by the lively 14th Street corridor to the west and the refurbished Howard Theatre bordering the Shaw neighborhood to the east, where a towering sculpture in reverence to Ellington stands.Our theme is Bold + Brilliant = Badass.  What do we mean when we say, Bold + Brilliant =  Badass?  To be Bold, means you are willing to speak out for the issues that mean the most to you.  To be Brilliant, means you have the experience, knowledge, and passion needed to advocate for your idea. When you combine Bold + Brilliant, the results is a Badass. Being a Badass means that, despite your fear, any potential backlash/criticism, or how unpopular your idea maybe to some, you will still push forward to share your truth.

Many years ago, the Washington, D.C. American Association of University Women (AAUW) branch established the Mary Church Terrell Scholarship (MCTS) as one of its community outreach projects. It was named in honor of Mary Church Terrell (1863 to 1954), a long-time member of the branch who was an educator, writer, lecturer, club woman and civil rights activist.  As a way to scale the vision of our branch, the officers of the AAUW Washington DC branch created the Mary Church Terrell Foundation (a nonprofit organization not affiliated with AAUW) as a way to pay homage to a woman whose efforts helped thousands of educated African American Women join the AAUW.  We know firsthand what a struggle it can be for girls and young women, from low income families and/or challenging backgrounds, to pursue higher education.  It takes resources, encouragement and a sense of possibility.  Our vision is to work together with like-minded stakeholders in Washington DC to provide scholarships to girls and young women.   Our goal is to change a young woman’s life in a most positive and profound way through education. Education is the key that will open so many doors, not least of which is the door to an informed and rational mind. And educated women are likely to ensure that their daughters are educated as well, so this gift of education is passed forward to the next generation.

House Of Ruth Maryland is a non-profit organization that was established in 1977. It is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. In Baltimore and Prince George's County, the organization provides services for women and their children who are victims of Domestic Violence. Funding for House of Ruth Maryland is made possible through private (53%) and government (38%) funds, and other sources (9%) including investment income, training and client fees resulting mainly from the Gateway Project. Since its inception, The House of Ruth Maryland has served over 100,000 victims of domestic violence.
