Jesse Shapins

Jesse Shapins is a seasoned strategic designer and builder with over 20 years of experience at the intersection of people, place, and technology.

During his time at Sidewalk Labs, Jesse led various projects in human-centered design, urban innovation, and community partnerships. He also spearheaded the company's efforts in addressing social equity and environmental sustainability.

Jesse's notable projects include the invention of Yellow Arrow, a global public art initiative recognized by MoMA, as well as The Colors of Berlin, an urban media arts project shedding light on everyday life.

As an entrepreneur, Jesse co-founded GoPop, a platform acquired by BuzzFeed, and Zeega, a web platform supported by the Knight Foundation for interactive storytelling.

Education-wise, Jesse holds a BA in Urban Studies from Columbia and a PhD in Urbanism and Critical Media Practice from Harvard. He co-founded metaLAB (at) Harvard, focusing on the convergence of humanities, urbanism, and technology.
