Vice President, Platform Engineering - Retail and Direct Bank

Technology lead for the Cloud program.  Oversaw growth of Capital One's journey from inception to the leading Financial Services Company in the Public Cloud.  Partnered with AWS (Amazon Web Services) and teams from across the company to transform how infrastructure is used. Responsible for building and rollout of tooling and education programs needed as enablers - Chef, Jenkins, etc.

Key areas of team and individual focus includes:

-  Extending corporate network into AWS regions, and designing segmentation across prod/dev-test and line-of-business domains using VPC construct.
-  Adding security controls to enforce data encryption technologies to secure confidential data workloads.
-  Integrating access and identity management systems to provide seamless user experience to the Cloud.
-  Updating business and system level monitoring tooling to accommodate shared physical network at AWS.
-  Establishing change management and training initiatives to foster DevOps engineering skills through use of software based infrastructure constructs, impacting 4000+ employees.
-  Collaborating with existing line of business efforts to build all new infrastructure using Cloud solutions.
-  Partnering directly with AWS, as well as eco-system of partners specializing in consulting and AWS-compatible products.
-  Integrating Cloud strategy with other major digital initiatives (mobile, API, open-source, etc.)

Sr. Director, Cloud Engineering - Technology Lead

- Managing engineering staff of 150 across five offices.
- Developed first generation Private-Cloud platform that manages automated patching and provisioning of > 7,000 servers across multiple datacenters.
- Leading strategy for leveraging AWS as a Public-Cloud platform, including establishing governance around when appropriate to use vs. internal hosting options.
- Hold platform engineering and operational responsibility for centralized tooling leveraged by > 1,000 software engineers across all business units, including GitHub, Subversion, Hudson, Nexus, etc.
- Served as program lead for in-sourcing key engineering staff functions as appropriate to serve broader company technology strategy.
- Led integration and post-integration staffing efforts within engineering organization due to multiple large acquisitions.

Sr. Director, Engineering – Hosting, DevOps, Asset and Identity Management Platforms

- Managed engineering staff of 40, including recruitment and development.
- Held platform engineering responsibility for SOAP/Java based middleware platform supporting peak loads of 1000 TPS, and > 1000 web services.
- Held platform engineering responsibility for data movement platform loading analytic and operational data from 100’s of internal and external sources.
- Tasked by CIO to help establish new recruitment pipeline for technical college hires.

Sr. Director, Engineering – Middleware and Data Management Platforms

- Managed architecture and engineering staff of 20.
- Led platform engineering effort to scale initial web-services platform from pilot product to highly-available solution used for online servicing of entire Credit Card customer base.
- Led platform engineering effort to build common ETL platform that serves as sole data movement platform for all customer/account data.
- Led initiatives for product selection around application monitoring, service registry/repository, developer tooling.

Director, Enterprise Platforms – SOA and Data Management Technologies

- Led application development effort of 50 software engineers for core collections platforms that manage main credit card portfolio.
- Implemented rules engine leveraging Blaze Advisor with > 10,000 rules handling segmentation and strategy application from initial arrears to charge-off.
- Delivered new collection solution, yielding $40MM first-year benefit by increasing number of delinquent credit card accounts brought current.

Technical Program Lead – Rewrite of Collections Platforms

- Managed staff of 20 software developers and testers supporting projects and production support.
- Held application development responsibility for both package software (Strata) and custom built interfaces and rules in PL/SQL.
