Laurel Miner

Laurel Miner is a highly accomplished individual with a strong background in physics, particularly in the field of biophysics. Laurel obtained her PhD in Physics with a concentration in Biophysics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, showcasing her dedication to advancing her knowledge and expertise in this specialized area. Prior to her doctoral studies, she also completed her BS in Physics at William & Mary, laying a solid foundation for her academic journey.

In terms of professional experience, Laurel has held key roles in various prestigious organizations, illustrating her exceptional leadership and analytical skills. Currently, Laurel serves as the Chief of Staff to the Vice President for Research and Innovation at Virginia Tech, where she plays a pivotal role in driving strategic initiatives and fostering research excellence within the institution. Before her tenure at Virginia Tech, Laurel worked as a Program Analyst at NIST, demonstrating her versatility in navigating different facets of the scientific community. Prior to that, she also served as a Science Advisor in the Office of the Under Secretary for Science at the Department of Energy, highlighting her broad understanding of the intersection between science and policy. Additionally, Laurel has prior experience as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she honed her research skills and contributed to the academic community.
