Mark Summerfield is an accomplished Australian Patent and Trade Marks Attorney who has spent over 12 years specializing in patent law and practice. With a PhD in optical fiber technology and experience in technology start-ups, Summerfield's career spans academic and industrial roles in research, development, and commercialization. He has held positions such as Research Engineer at Telstra Research Laboratories, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne, Intellectual Property Manager at RBN, Inc., and Senior Photonics Architect at VPIsystems. Summerfield has consistently advised individuals, companies, and research institutions on how to manage and protect their intellectual assets. He is also known for his blog, Patentology, which was added to PANDORA, the Australian National Library's archive of significant online publications. Summerfield has appeared on ABC Radio National's PM and Law Report programs, and on the Wall Street Journal's WSJ Live Asia Today webcast. He is a Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne, where he lectures on Australian patent practice.
