Jean Rheem is an award-winning documentary film editor with a passion for telling honest and complex stories. She honed her craft while studying at Duke University, where she made a documentary film about five teens with autism that won multiple awards. Her most recent work is a documentary feature funded by Davis Guggenheim's Concordia Studios, which follows the story of high school seniors attending a controversial school in the rural South. She's also currently editing her third documentary feature about a group of journalists fighting for the freedom of the press in a small town in the South.

After graduating from Duke, Jean produced and edited her first documentary feature film titled Save My Seoul, a powerful story about two teen girls forced into prostitution in South Korea. The film premiered and won the Grand Jury Award at the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival in 2017 and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.

Jean believes that documentary filmmaking is an art form that can both affirm us in our individuality and connect us to others. Her goal is to continue telling stories that create space for reflection on our lived experiences. Her outstanding work in the field has earned her the Karen Schmeer Documentary Editing Fellowship in 2020, where she is mentored by acclaimed filmmakers Jeff Gilbert and Poppy Das.

In addition to her work as a documentary filmmaker and editor, Jean has also worked as a respite provider and camp counselor at the Autism Society of North Carolina. She is currently a freelance editor, having previously worked with Jubilee Media and Jubilee Project as an editor and documentary filmmaker.
