Guy Helman
Guy Helman, a top-performing MD-PhD Candidate, is a driven academician and athlete with a passion for medicine and research. With a B.S. in Biology from The George Washington University, Guy has had extensive experience in health fields and youth coaching, which have honed his leadership, negotiation, and motivation skills. He has worked as a Clinical Research Coordinator and Undergraduate Student Researcher at Children's National Health System, where he developed a high level of maturity and compassion and learnt about stroke disparities programs.
Guy has been involved in medical and genomic research on Paediatric Neurology with a focus on Leukodystrophies. His doctoral research, undertaken at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute in Melbourne and The University of Queensland's Institute for Molecular Bioscience, studies the impact of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) methods on the diagnosis of individuals with suspected Leukodystrophy. He also investigates new approaches for cases that remain unresolved after NGS is performed.
Guy has a long history of service as a water polo coach, camp counselor, and team captain, along with extensive experience as a field scientist, supervisor, and intern. His dynamic personality and strong work ethic make him a promising future clinician-scientist.
