Friederike Schüür

Friederike Schüür is an accomplished independent data scientist and applied machine learning research engineer passionate about leveraging data. Currently, she is involved in pioneering work collaborating with ethnographers on AR algorithms for home environment and leading data initiatives at a dental insurance startup. Additionally, a notable achievement is her upcoming role as an Assembly Fellow at the MIT Media Lab and Harvard Berkman Klein Center in Spring 2019.

Having been a part of the original Fast Forward Labs team acquired by Cloudera, Friederike has expertise in exploring cutting-edge machine learning capabilities and their practical applications across various industries. During her time at FFL, she played a pivotal role in developing and spearheading the data strategy consulting practice to assist enterprises in identifying and capitalizing on innovative opportunities. Her consulting work has catered to diverse clients such as an international scientific publisher, a prominent hedge fund, and USA for UNHCR (UN Refugees).

Friederike Schüür's academic prowess is evidenced by her extensive educational background, including a BA in Philosophy, cum laude, and a BSc in Cognitive Science, cum laude, from Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen. Furthermore, she pursued a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London, U. of London, and completed MA in Philosophy / Logic, cum laude, and MSc in Cognitive Science, summa cum laude, from Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, along with additional studies at Leibniz Kolleg.

Her professional journey includes roles such as Fellow in AI Ethics and Digital Governance at the United Nations, Co-chair of the Data Advisory Board at USA for UNHCR, Director of Data Science at Cityblock Health, Research Engineer at Cloudera and Fast Forward Labs, Program Director for Data Science, and Data Scientist at Insight Data Science. Moreover, she has held positions at Oscar Insurance, volunteered at DataKind, served as a postdoctoral research scientist at New York University, and undertaken graduate student research at University College London, among other notable engagements.
