Nina Alvarez is a highly experienced bi-lingual journalist and documentarian with over two decades of experience in covering armed conflict, government corruption, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and violence against women. She has worked in various environments in the U.S, Latin America, Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East. Nina has worked for some of the biggest news and media organizations in the world, including MSNBC, ABC News, WETA, CNBC, and Al Jazeera English. She has produced, directed, and written for Showtime Networks and MTV Networks. Nina is a former fellow at the International Reporting Fellowship and has mentored media professionals at Afghan Voices. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, while previously she worked as a Senior Editor for Investigations at The Futuro Media Group, President of Zócalo Media, Senior Producer for The Naked Truth at Fusion Network, Producer/Writer/Camera for PBS' WIDE ANGLE, and Field Producer/Researcher for HBO's Which Way Home.
