As a CNS in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (ICU) I actively contribute to clinical practice through development and implementation of policy, mentor new staff and guide other staff at a high level. I am constantly looking for opportunities to improve my practice, both in professional skills and personal attributes, regularly attending courses, study days (structured and unstructured) and conferences.
I have undertaken secondments such as Team Leader and Rapid Response Team Nurse and regularly seek  experiences to further my professional practice.

This six-month secondment involves day-to-day management of the Cardiothoracic ICU in conjunction with the NUM and Nurse Managers. It involves assessing staffing requirements and allocating appropriate staff for patient care ensuring safety, quality and world class care within a tertiary referral (level 6) center. In addition work with senior colleagues to provided clinical and HR support and resources to all front-line clinical staff in the unit, overseeing delivery of clinical services to all patients within the unit, and provide informal cardiothoracic support to other intensive care and cardiac areas. I also facilitate patient flow both into the primarily surgically based ICU and to the wards. 
Working closely with the management and education teams within the ICU is a fantastic development role for a developing Intensive Care Nurse.

Tasks included, assisting RN/EN's with patient care, maintaining stock levels, patient observations, data input.

Community nursing care to patients in their houses. Tasks included: minor dressings, medication administration, patient hygiene and assisting with personal living arrangements.
