The Indigenous Advisory and Monitoring Committee seeks to form the basis of a new relationship between Indigenous communities, the government and the National Energy Board in respect of the TMX project and existing pipeline. The Committee provides for collaborative, inclusive and meaningful Indigenous involvement in the review and monitoring of the environmental, safety and socioeconomic issues related to TMX and the existing pipeline over their lifecycles. The Secretariat is based out of NRCan’s Indigenous Partnerships Office – West and provides a range of support services to the committee.

Elected to the Board of Directors for the Cambodian community in Ottawa, Darren ran on a platform of representing the Cambodian-Canadian youths within the Ottawa Valley community. Serving as one of the nine directors, Darren is the youngest serving member. His main goal is to raise the profile of Cambodian-Canadian youth within the Cambodian community.

Cambodian-Canadian youths often face difficulties in their education, as most are second generation immigrants. These problems need to be addressed by the community. As the representative of the Cambodian-Canadian youth, Darren hopes to help resolves the problems that faces them.

Moreover, Darren has act as a spokesperson for the community at various events and functions in Ottawa. He wants to raise the profile of the community within the City of Ottawa.

The Student Voice Initiative (SVI) is a collaborative mentorship network devoted to furthering student success in communities across the country by leveraging the creativity, insight, and expertise of Canada's top young changemakers.

As the Director and Provincial Ambassador for Alberta, Darren's main focus was to assist student leaders in Southern Alberta. Students deserve a voice in the decisions made affecting them. In Calgary, Darren coordinated efforts in brining this issue to the forefront of attention to the Calgary Board of Education.

As the Secretary of the Khmer Youth Association of Alberta, Darren raised the profile of youth within the community. Many Cambodian-Canadian youth face several obstacles of growing up in Canada, ranging from difficulties in school to seeking employment.
- Defined the mission of the association, and created an organization framework that made the association transparent and accountable to the stakeholders within the community
- Created the Khmer Youth Scholarship Program that would award youth from grade 7 to grade 12 for academic and leadership achievement.
- Raise awareness in the importance of youth within the Cambodian community.
