Lauren Swezey is a highly experienced sustainability expert who currently leads sustainability and landscape projects at Facebook facilities. She has been with the company since 2010 and has been instrumental in reducing the carbon footprint of Facebook offices across the globe. Lauren's expertise in green building and sustainable materials has helped Facebook create healthier and safer work environments for its employees. She was responsible for creating Facebook’s first Global Sustainability Standards and drove the development of the 9-acre and 3.6-acre green roofs on the company’s buildings designed by Frank Gehry. She has also been involved in local and regional environmental nonprofits, advising and partnering with them to protect and restore natural environments. Her educational background includes a BS and MAg in horticulture, entomology, and communication from Oregon State University, and she has studied energy efficiency for small businesses and environmental leadership at Acterra: Action for a Sustainable Earth. Lauren has also studied Carbon Workshop and LEED Green Associate Green Building at De Anza College and USGBC, respectively. She serves on the Board of Directors for Save the Bay and has been a steering committee member of the Palo Alto Green Energy and Compost Initiative. Her background includes being a former event planner for the City of Belmont and Palo Alto, former Senior Writer at Sunset Magazine, and former freelance writer at Weldon Owen Publishing.
