Dr. Ali Alaraj, MD, FAHA, FACS, is an accomplished Neurosurgeon and Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery at the University of Illinois, with particular expertise in treating ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and other neurovascular conditions.
With a dual training in open Vascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery, Dr. Alaraj serves as the Medical Director of the Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit and Co-Chair of the Comprehensive Stroke Program at the University of Illinois Health. Additionally, he is the Director of Clinical Operations at the Department of Neurosurgery.
His academic contributions include over 150 published peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters, where he explores topics such as the management of brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and quantitative cerebral flow measures. He is actively involved in editorial boards of prominent medical journals and serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Alaraj pursued his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the American University of Beirut and completed his Fellowship in Cerebrovascular & Endovascular Neurosurgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He also undertook his Neurosurgery Residency at the American University of Beirut.
His professional journey includes roles as Assocaite Editor at Neurosurgery Journal, Former Section Chief of Endovascular Neurosurgery, and various academic appointments at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Ali Alaraj's research interests extend to exploring outcomes in the realm of neurovascular interventions, including computational quantification of intracranial flows and the application of virtual reality simulation in neurosurgical training.
