Back-End Architect

As a CTO at Shedul, I'm responsible for the following aspects of our Elixir/Ruby/React tech stack:

-  Identify, choose and integrate new technologies
-  Build and validate a tech roadmap for all products
-  Seek for opening business opportunities via technology
-  Ensure continuous improvement of product quality and innovation
-  Advocate opportunities and limitations of tech choices to executives
-  Encourage and enhance tech information exchange between engineers
-  Reinforce and aid building of a proper learning culture
-  Define, encourage and enforce best coding practices
-  Voice out the company tech culture in the developer community

Since 2017, my job at Shedul covers a company-wide technical leadership over Elixir/Phoenix, Ruby/Ruby on Rails and JavaScript/React efforts. This means coordinating front-end, back-end and devops efforts across multiple rapidly growing, globally used products.

Most importantly, I'm putting my love for Elixir into use by introducing and building from ground up an Elixir/Phoenix stack with a team mostly experienced in Ruby on Rails. This covers making long-term engineering choices, couching the team, reassuring code quality and overcoming obstacles as they come.

Technical Lead

My basic responsibilities at Shedul included:

-  Ruby on Rails development
-  JavaScript/React development
-  Webpack configuration, tooling and optimizations
-  configuration and tooling around the Heroku platform

I've had a major impact on the following aspects of the project:

-  seamless deployment of features in a way that doesn't interrupt large user base across the world
-  performance inspections and optimziations of database, server-side code and front-end code
-  establishment of project guidelines and best practices both on Ruby and JavaScript ends
-  introduction of new technologies like React or Phoenix to ensure system growth and scalability

I was responsible of architecture and implemention of the following Shedul core features:

-  proprietary calendar module (React client, Rails API)
-  embeddable online & Facebook booking widget (Rails AJAX)
-  modern front-end setup (Webpack, Babel)

Senior Software Engineer

I've started at Visuality in an emerging team of 3 bosses + 3 employees and stayed all the way up to almost 30 people total, having a chance to develop or participate in about 25 projects. This guaranteed a constant challenge of varying workflows and requirements, specific to each stage of a software house growth.

During that time I've had my hands full of work in the following areas:

-  Ruby on Rails development: sole end-to-end development of whole projects, cooperation in teams of 3-5 programmers on some larger projects, long-term maintenance of crucial company's in-house projects, leadership of juniors, cooperation with external companies on creation of mobile APIs and their documentation, participation in establishing and enforcing company-wide Ruby or Rails guidelines and best practices

-  JavaScript development: sole end-to-end development of Ember SPA projects consuming external APIs, leadership in introducing & implementing Angular in company projects, leadership in creating a company-wide Webpack/React configuration and introducing & implementing React in company projects, typical scripting around RoR AJAX flows with jQuery, some special missions like a WebGL renderer or custom drag-n-drop plugin

-  DevOps: configuration of dedicated servers for Ruby on Rails + Capistrano deployment, automation of server provisioning with Chef, implementation of internal tools for Heroku deployment, episodes of early interventions in case of production server issues

-  CSS styling: SASS + Bourbon styling of early stage projects for prototyping purposes, episodes of CSS3 trickery pulling, introduction in the company of responsive web design frameworks (Bootstrap 3, Foundation 4), contribution to Webpack + CSS module switch
