Charlton Tarver
Charlton Tarver is a highly experienced and accomplished educator with a specialization in reading instruction for Special Education students. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Washington and has completed Special Education Credentials and MA program in Special Education and Teaching at San Francisco State University. Charlton has also successfully completed the Washington State Teaching Credential and Fifth Year Course Requirements at Western Washington University.
Charlton began his career in education as a Peace Corps volunteer at Ecole Secondaire de N'Tondo in Africa. After returning to the United States, he worked at various schools in different positions, including a 5th & 6th Grades Teacher at Quinault Lake School and as a Resource Specialist/Learning Specialist at Oakland Unified School District. Charlton's long history of working effectively with students with learning disabilities who have had difficulties in their regular school sites dates back to his tenure as the Head of Special Education Reading Clinic at Oakland Unified School District. During his thirteen years in this role, he was instrumental in creating a reading clinic that helped students with learning difficulties and supervised many clinicians that worked effectively with these students.
Charlton's experience in education has made him well-versed in professional development for both general and special education staff. He is passionate about helping staff better understand the difficulties involved in reading acquisition and offer practical means of addressing these concerns.
