I learned how to become a self-directed learner through engaging in an immersive learning experience in San Francisco. For the first three months, I focused on learning 21st century skills such as mentorship, self-evaluation, and goal setting. Through weekly coaching and the wider mentorship community I became adept at tackling new challenges and knowing where to start, what questions to ask, and who to ask for help. I spent two hours every morning before high school for two years learning about video production. We had a classroom with a smartboard, studio, Mac lab, control room, and professional equipment to make films. I went on with a partner of mine in the class to win first place in the Regional Skills USA Video Production Competition and second place at the State level for the competition.
