Initially appointed as a Financial Adviser to General Holding Corporation assisting in capital raising associated with its industrialization strategy. Subsequent transition to ADBIC as a senior founder employee focussed on formulating and delivering development strategies in relation to three foundational projects - the role encompassed recruitment and structuring, industry cluster strategy and development and project finance oriented capital raising and ExCo participation.

My role as Region Risk Director for GE Equity's  Asia Pacific operations encompassed, in respect of a sector and geography diverse portfolio of typically minority or significant minority positions: oversight of deal pipelines, execution and portfolio monitoring; mentoring and guiding investment teams; acting as local gatekeeper to the global investment committee; ad hoc involvement in due diligence, negotiation, documentation and/or post investment management; and management of specific challenged accounts. With GE Equity's wind-down in the region, the latter months of the role focussed on portfolio viability, valuation and exit options.

Employed at a time when CDC undertook direct investment in emerging economies in Asia, Africa and Central/Southern America. Appointed to a number of progressively more senior investment related roles, including in-country postings to: Tanzania (centred on privatized tea estates and project appraisals in neighbouring Kenya and Uganda); London (co-ordination and execution of due diligence, deal structuring, negotiation and closing of a broad range of projects - infrastructure, manufacturing and agribusiness - across developing economies (Asia, Africa and Central America); Indonesia ( portfolio development and management), Malaysia (technology portfolio development) and Singapore ( establishing framework for a pan-regional head-quarters).

Responsibilities included training and supervision of internal and external staff, sector experience encompassed hospitality, retail, property development and manufacturing; and a nine month rotation into graduate recruitment.
