Marcus Watson is an accomplished Investment Director at KawiSafi Ventures, with a wealth of experience in renewable energy across emerging markets. Having advised governments, corporations, and private equity funds, Marcus has been involved in over $500 million in transactions and fund formations in the African off-grid energy sector.

Marcus began his career in law, working as a Corporate Attorney for Macfarlanes and then at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), where he advised on M&A and private equity funds. He later transitioned to development consulting, joining the Grassroots Business Fund and Finca International as a consultant. Eventually, he became a Partner at Dalberg, where he led the Africa energy and infrastructure practice, before joining KawiSafi Ventures as Investment Director.

Marcus's impressive academic background includes an MA in English and Philosophy from Trinity College Dublin, as well as a LLM from The University of Law, and an MA specializing in International Economics, Finance and Development from The Johns Hopkins University - Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).

Beyond his professional work, Marcus has also served on the advisory board for TakaTaka Solutions, as well as the steering committee for East Africa at the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE). He has also held roles as a Senior Advisor for the Optimizer Foundation and as a Non-Executive Director for InspiraFarms.
