Justin Myers, Ph.D., is an expert in environmental sociology, food and agriculture, and social inequality. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Sociology at Fresno State and has studied at some of the top universities in the country, including The Graduate Center, City University of New York, San Diego State University, and Sonoma State University.

Dr. Myers' primary research focuses on East New York Farms!, a food justice organization that builds community food systems in underprivileged areas. He analyzes the strategies for and barriers to realizing food justice through farmers markets, urban farms, and market-oriented community and backyard gardens.

Dr. Myers' work has three main areas of concentration. Firstly, he investigates how local food systems can achieve environmental sustainability, social equity, and community-based economic development. Secondly, he delves into environmental and food justice movements and how grassroots organizing can combat institutional racism and classism. Finally, he examines the conflict between community-based organizations, the state, and corporations regarding how best to combat food inequities in conventional food systems, particularly in food desert communities.

As an Assistant Professor, Justin teaches courses on environmental and food justice, social stratification, and social theory. He has also published several academic articles and book chapters on related topics.
