Tomo Akiyama has an extensive background in investment banking and venture capital, spanning over 20 years. He began his career in the financial industry as an analyst after earning his undergraduate degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology. He went on to work for top US and European investment banks like Merrill Lynch and UBS Securities Japan Ltd. Akiyama also holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology and an MBA in Finance Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

As an angel investor for over two decades, Akiyama has backed numerous successful startups as well. He worked as a Managing Partner & CEO in TOMO International Co., a venture capital and seed accelerator. He is also the Founder & Chief Organizer of Global Techno Innovation Cafe (GTIC), an ecosystem for start-ups and entrepreneurs. Akiyama is a Mentor at the MIT Enterprise Forum Japan and a Judge, Mentor, and Organizer at Start-up Weekend Japan. He is a member of the Japan Venture capital Association (JVCA).
