Dee Williams
Dee Williams, a well-experienced environmental specialist and entrepreneur, has spent over 30 years dealing with hazardous waste, air emissions, and wastewater. Her expertise includes compliance, technical assistance, and toxics reduction, garnering her numerous recognitions as an inspector and investigator for the WA State Department of Ecology. Dee's background in architectural engineering, mathematics, and environmental studies, fueled by an innate curiosity for nature and people, has enabled her to be a founder of Portland Alternative Dwellings, a business that focuses on green building and smart design of small homes and communities.
Parallel to her career in environmental protection, Dee Williams wrote memoirs published by Penguin Random House, which became a college curriculum, book club reference, and a media sensation. Though she has several years of experience in the field of academics, Williams is more than that. She is also a former owner and woodworker of Boxcar Woodcraft and a researcher and assistant engineer at Amereco Environmental Services and Midwest Research Institute, respectively.
Williams is determined to continue using her experience to support strong environmental programs, promote forward-thinking action, and encourage life-long learning. She values living sustainably and building harmony and growth in communities. Her inspiring story of living in an eco-friendly, 84-sq.ft home serves as a testament to her passion and commitment to create a sustainable future.
