Sam Gregory
Sam Gregory is a well-known human rights advocate and technologist. She is internationally recognized for her work at the intersection of civic participation, video, technology, human rights, and media. With over a decade of experience in using video, new media, and participatory technologies for campaigning, she is a recognized expert in preparing and responding to deepfakes and emerging forms of misinformation/disinformation. Sam has a diverse range of experience in NGO and non-profit management, technology, strategic planning, impact evaluation, training, teaching, facilitation, and strategy. She has managed a team of 10 specialists, with a budget of over $1.5 million and directly manages innovation-driven projects including WITNESS Media Lab, award-winning ProofMode and ObscuraCam projects, and technology advocacy towards major tech companies. Sam has launched innovations in the field of human rights, including a twice-Webby nominated YouTube Human Rights Channel and Mobil-Eyes Us. She is also the lead editor of 'Video for Change: A Guide for Advocacy and Activism', and has designed a 2-week curriculum on video for advocacy; providing training to 500+ human rights advocates. Sam has taught human rights advocacy via participatory media at Harvard Kennedy School 2010-18, published in human rights, social entrepreneurship, and visual media journals, and has spoken widely at global events. She has a background in executive education, public policy, modern history, and Spanish, and has studied at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Harvard Kennedy School, University of Oxford, and Yale University.
