My role at Daltix has evolved from being our technical architect towards building & organising the engineering team. At FLIR I worked on firmware development for security cameras for both the professional and consumer markets.This firmware is made up by an embedded linux system with various extra software programs, built using Buildroot, Yocto or a proprietary build system. Additional tasks consisted of integrating new technologies (e.g Apple's Homekit protocol) as well as some hardware verification during the firmware bootstrapping phase of the project.

My role was the development and implementation of XML based device drivers (which often contained C# code), also known as protocol or drivers, which allow the exchange of data between customer devices and the NMS. This is mainly done using SNMP, TCP, HTTP or serial communication. Common devices are video routers, satellite modems, and switches.These drivers allow the NMS to integrate new (sometimes customer specific) devices.

For my master thesis, I wanted a challenge and decided to do a 6-month internship at Triagnosys, a German telecommunications company in Munich. This internship started in September so I had to follow up on my courses whilst working full-time in Germany. To do this, I traveled back to Belgium for a month during each semester to catch up on school projects. I also came back in the exam period to finish his exams just like my school colleagues. During this project I designed and constructed an octocopter capable of lifting a payload (around 3kg). This payload consisted of a small Intel PC and a UMTS femtocell. I did this with the help of two supervisors (from the company). They aided me greatly on how to design such a complex system and how to plan and execute the various phases of the process. My master thesis consists of the full description of this project.
