Founded in 2018 and based in Pasadena, Calif., Braeburn Family Office LLC provides unique, highly personal financial, transitional, philanthropic solutions and opportunities to domestic, multi-national families and their succeeding generations.

Through our organic strategy of interlocking solutions, we assist clients across the family-office continuum that, in addition to asset allocation, spans business transition, tax and estate planning, philanthropic coordination, intergenerational and family-wealth governance matters, among other services required by the ultra-wealthy.

The firm was founded and is led by Managing Partner Michael Adam Smith, who possesses 35 years of capital markets and investment management expertise in this category.

Our clients created significant wealth and with that comes a multitude of challenges and responsibilities.  Braeburn brings to bear requisite expertise helping individuals and their families achieve their fullest potential and success, promoting their growth across generations – not only financial but intellectual, social and spiritual – and allowing them to flourish.

Braeburn is a retainer-based advisory, and neither sells and places products nor accepts referral or third-party compensation fees.  Placing precedence on independence and objectivity, we maintain non-conflicted affiliations with boutique investment banks, accounting and law practices and other professional advisors – such as fine art curators, aviation, personal and cyber security, and valuations specialists.

Founded in 2011, MUSE/IQUE is a dynamic, non-profit organization that creates exhilarating live music adventures.  Using the entire city as a venue, MUSE/IQUE goes way beyond the concert hall with spectacularly intimate performances which combine music, movement and ideas from a diverse range of genres.  Under the leadership of renowned Artistic Director Rachael Worby, MUSE/IQUE's artistic collective consists of an acclaimed orchestra and top musicians from the world of jazz, rock, blues, gospel, and more along with today's best singers, dancers, and thinkers.

Los Angeles Youth Network's (LAYN) was founded in 1984 to empower abused, neglected, and homeless adolescents to become self sufficient.  We do this by providing street outreach, food, emergency shelter, transitional living apartments, and educational enrichment programs in a safe and nuturing environment.  LAYN provides for the neediest children in Los Angeles; those failed by their parents and the foster care system.  Our nearly $4mln/year budget will provide 11,000 bed nights and 35,000 meals through our 3 locations.

As the manager of the Wealth Management Division at California Bank & Trust I was directly responsible for over one hundred investment and trust administration associates.  In addition to setting policy I was a member of the Bank’s Management Committee and interfaced with the Board.  I successfully identified and hired candidates for sales, client service, trust administration and portfolio management positions.  My responsibilities also included supervising and executing the numerous regulatory guidelines of the investment and trust business lines.  I was responsible for the P/L of the Division, which I am proud to note, improved significantly during my tenure. I identified, opened, and staffed new markets for the Division and marketed the Division’s strategies to companion Bank business lines resulting in additional client penetration.
