Stefan Zweig Zentrum SalzburgOn the site of two smaller houses dating back to the 13th century, Edmund Sinnhuber, the abbot of St. Peter’s Abbey, had the Edmundsburg erected at the end of the 17th century as housing for “deserving retainers of the Abbey”. Since the mid-19th century, the building functioned as a “sanctuary for poor boys”, and until the end of the 1950s it was a boarding house for students and apprentices.  In 1961 the International Research Centre for Social Ethics (Internationales Forschungszentrum für die Grundfragen der Wissenschaften) was founded here.Since the autumn of 2008, Salzburg’s Paris Lodron University has re-established the building, which is owned by the Archdiocese of Salzburg, as a “House for Europe”. The Edmundsburg houses the Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies (SCEUS), the Faculty of Economic, Labour and European Law, and a European Centre for PhD Students. An important centre for friends of literature, the Stefan Zweig Centre, one of the University’s research centres, occupies the ground floor. An exhibition informs visitors about Stefan Zweig’s life and works, the Centre offers events focusing on Austrian literature in the first half of the 20th century, and international relations with other universities are cultivated here. The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities is one of seven regional organizations recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit postsecondary institutions within the United States.It is incorporated as a legally established, private 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation for the expressed purpose of accrediting higher education institutions in the seven-state Northwest region which includes Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. Membership and organization of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities is set forth in its Bylaws.NWCCU is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the authority on the educational quality and institutional effectiveness of higher education institutions in the seven-state Northwest region of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. The Commission also recognizes higher education institutions internationally, including Canada. NWCCU is also recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).The Commission oversees regional accreditation for 162 institutions. Its decision-making body consists of up to twenty-six Commissioners who represent the public and the diversity of higher education institutions within the Northwest region.

St George’s House was founded in 1966 by H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh and the then Dean of Windsor, Robin Woods, as a place where people of influence and responsibility in every area of society can come together to explore and communicate their views and analysis of contemporary issues.The House is located within Windsor Castle and forms part of the fourteenth century foundations of the College of St George. The Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) is a London-based, British organisation committed to finding practical solutions to social challenges. Founded in 1754 by William Shipley as the Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce, it was granted a Royal Charter in 1847, and the right to use the term Royal in its name by King Edward VII in 1908.The shorter version, The Royal Society of Arts and the related RSA acronym, are used more frequently than the full name.Notable past fellows include Charles Dickens, Benjamin Franklin, Stephen Hawking, Karl Marx, Adam Smith, Nelson Mandela, David Attenborough, William Hogarth, John Diefenbaker, and Tim Berners-Lee. I am serving a four-year term as the Austrian Studies Association's Chief Executive Officer Liaison to the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS). As such, I am an ex-officio Board Member of ACLS.ACLS, a private, nonprofit federation of 75 national scholarly organizations, is the preeminent representative of American scholarship in the humanities and related social sciences. Advancing scholarship by awarding fellowships and strengthening relations among learned societies are central to our work. HLC relies upon the work of peer reviewers for its accrediting activities. These volunteers generously share their knowledge and experience to assure and advance institutional quality. HLC maintains a Peer Corps of approximately 1,600 faculty and administrators from institutions within the 19-state North Central region. The peer reviewers play an incredibly important role in all stages of the accreditation process. They are responsible for assuring that an institution is complying with the accreditation criteria as well as for helping an institution advance within the context of its own mission.

The Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences (CCAS), founded in 1965, is the national association of colleges of arts and sciences. Its purpose is to provide professional-development programming to its member deans and to sustain the arts and sciences as a leading influence in American higher education. CCAS serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas and information among deans of arts and sciences representing the member colleges and as a representative of the liberal arts and sciences at a national policy-making level. The Council further seeks to support programs, activities, and resources to improve the intellectual stature and public understanding of the disciplines of the arts and sciences.Arts and sciences colleges represent more than half of the undergraduate instruction offered at their institutions, and many member colleges are responsible for a wide spectrum of master's and doctoral degree programs. ACCA’s primary objective is to promote collegiate education in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, psychology, sociology/anthropology, and business/economics by stimulating and regularizing cooperative arrangements between the member colleges and universities and other educational and research institutions in the use of staff and facilities.
