Emily Marquez, a Boston University Ph.D. graduate in Biology, is a staff scientist at the Pesticide Action Network North America. Her interest lies in sex determination and developmental reproductive endocrinology with a focus on endocrine disruption. She has worked on cloning cDNAs for various genes such as aromatase, estrogen receptor, and aryl hydrocarbon receptors to determine the environmental impact of gene expression in turtles. Emily has also worked on various postdoctoral research projects at the University of California, Davis and Berkeley. She believes in public-facing science and community-based participatory research and has a strong interest in public health in the context of pesticide and neurodevelopmental toxicants. Her skillset lies in Real-time quantitative PCR, PCR, molecular cloning, SDS-PAGE, western blotting, RNA/DNA isolation, and research and field collection. Her primary areas of interest lie in public-facing science, community-based participatory research, and advocacy using scientific data.
