Maeva Gauthier is a driven and accomplished Community-based Researcher with a passion for using video and digital tools to engage youth in environmental issues. With over 15 years of experience in event production, ocean sciences, exploration, and science outreach, she brings a range of skills to her work. Her background includes Graduate Certificates in Environmental Education and Communication, and Environmental Communication, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Biology with an Ecology option, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Geography.

Maeva has experience in fundraising, community engagement, and outreach, and has held positions such as Co-Founder and COO at Live It, Communications Director at The Explorers Club- Canadian Chapter, Marine Science and Communications Specialist at Pacific Wild, and Aquatic Biologist at Fisheries and Oceans Canada. She also worked as a former Editor/Analyst for the Arctic Results Bulletin (contract) at POLAR Knowledge Canada, Digital Media Coordinator and Producer's Assistant at CanazWest Pictures, and Marine Ecologist & Outreach Coordinator at Coastal and Ocean Resources.

Her expertise in marine ecology, outreach tools, and coastal communities has also been reflected in her past work as a Teaching Assistant in Climate and Society and Marine invertebrates at the University of Victoria. Maeva is an award-winning filmmaker and has produced engaging educational materials in her role as Filmmaker and lesson plan developer at Arctic Sea Ice -Educational Package and Co-Founder/Executive Director at Fish Eye Project.

Maeva has a keen interest in biodiversity, exploration, and the intersection of cultural and biological perspectives. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD in Community-based Research at the University of Victoria, where she is using video and other digital tools to engage youth in Tuktoyaktuk, NWT on global changes such as plastics and climate change.
