Manager, Creative Operations at Universal Pictures

Creative Operations is Universal Pictures International’s in-house post-production facility, servicing the film marketing, acquisitions and technical operations departments.

My responsibilities are as follows:

-  Managing a team of post-production operators/editors, managing shifts and training junior members of staff where needed; creating guides when new equipment and workflows are installed.
-  Maintaining quality control, ensuring that all client deliveries are to a high standard and managing client expectations.
-  Acting as the main point of call for clients, advising on workflows and technical queries across the company.
-  Liaising with external cutting rooms and post-production supervisors, providing support if required.
-  Attending specialist conventions (such as IBC in Amsterdam and BVE in London) to gain knowledge on current and emerging trends in the industry and relaying information back to the team.
-  Designing and maintaining file-based workflows for various usage i.e. screener files, dubbing and subbing reference files and standards conversions.
-  Taking on more advanced operator/editor duties, such as basic engineering and troubleshooting (under guidance from the engineering team) and advising on strict anti-piracy and security protocol where needed.

I also work as a sound editor and mixer in the audio department if required.

Working as a tracklayer/sound editor on programmes including Top Gear Africa Specials for BBC and This World for BBC.

Voiceover sessions I have engineered include recording Christopher Ecclestone for Survivors UK (Century Films).

As an audio assistant, I provided technical assistance to our in-house and freelance dubbing mixers. This included monitoring and quality-checking laybacks for broadcast (including 5.1) and working as technical support for the audio suites.
