Building product and the systems to support it at Go.As the first engineering hire, I wore many different hats. I led the backend efforts (primarily written in Golang) to support our API server, internal build/deployment infrastructure (testing and Docker deployments) and data pipelines for the Safe Map. The Safe Map used machine learning to identify safer driving routes for users and leveraged the Python ML ecosystem (pandas, numpy, etc).I also contributed to the frontend iOS app written in Swift that helped users leverage their driving data for auto insurance discounts based on safer driving suggested by the Safe Map.

Fullstack engineer

Cofounder and CTO at Piper.  Piper is an electronics toolkit that teaches kids how to build real electronics by playing Minecraft.  Players explore custom Minecraft mods that instruct in the building of circuits with onscreen, real-time feedback.  Later levels involve mini-games that help the player build more complex projects.  The end of the game has the child building flashlights with programmable LEDS, music keyboards with piezobuzzers, motion sensor alarms and more.   The Raspberry Pi SOC is used to connect the virtual and the physical in our system so that users see resistors, breadboards and sensors in a medium they know and love.  By using off-the-shelf components like this, we keep the platform modular and composable so anyone can contribute to the Piper universe.Currently in charge of all software and most hardware engineering at Piper.  I've built out our entire software library for generating electronics components in Minecraft and implemented the hardware and software aspects for all levels in the game.  I have developed a lightweight Linux distribution for our embedded system and included custom kernel modules to enable hardware performance that is lacking in popular Raspberry Pi operating systems.  I take care of all of our web services including an internal analytics platform and our product launch page.  I built the preorder website for our holiday campaign and developed the backend for our referrals campaign that garnered 10,000 users.

Researched advanced electronic materials.  Investigated solid-state compounds with potentially novel  properties by growing high-quality single crystals.  Measured the electromagnetic response of these compounds to assess their utility for the design and manufacture of state-of-the-art electronics.  Performed novel computational modeling of electronic structure to determine the applicability of these compounds to these systems.
